The Wedding of the Year

May 15, 2006

I couldn’t believe all of the relationship dramas and ultimately the wedding between Jamie and Katie on last night’s daily show.

It couldn’t have been scripted better to fit into the one hour timeslot.  Katie going cold on Jamie for perceived flirting (or flarting as Jamie would pronounce it!), the agony aunt discussions with BB by Jamie, the night of two strangers in a bed and the reconciliation with, Jamie saving the day by being a good communicator and the climax of a wedding.

What’s going on?  There wasn’t even a whiff of any of this Friday or earlier.

What keeps me coming back – year after year – is the opportunity to see people as they really are, rather than the way they present themselves in every day life.

Katie actually said she doesn’t commit to relationships in order to avoid being hurt. She has clearly spent her “adulthood” flitting about like a butterfly, never getting involved and avoiding any emotional connection because she has no self-esteem which she hides behind a lot of bravado. She believes she isn’t particularly attractive either physically or mentally and has been making up for that with a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Many of us are hiding behind a facade of self-confidence when really we are just blubbering blobs of jelly.

Thanks Pandymonium. You’re right, BB does give us a chance to see seemingly confident people being themselves. It’s reassuring to introverted types like myself!
