The Winner is… Jamie!

August 1, 2006

There you have it, the end of BB06 and Jamie was the winner.  I’m glad that someone interesting with a real personality won it this year.  He really did contribute to the drama in the house and for that reason, I think him a worthy winner.

Camilla did put her heart into it and showed her true character.  She was the mouthpiece for the other housemates when they wouldn’t speak out against new personalities, in particular, Perry.  I do think she would have been extremely difficult to live with, but she also was a major contributor to the drama and interest in the house.  I think the final three were all worthwhile finalists.

This year’s grand finale show was a massive effort.  I think it is the biggest production yet.  It was nice to see all of the former housemates come back to watch the show with Jamie and Camilla.  The dramatic lovers reunion with Jamie and Katie was as well staged as their farewell kiss.  The drinks in the house were a nice touch too, but for the housemates it would have seemed far too short a time.  It was more for the benefit of the viewers.

The announcement of the winner was shifted back into the house this year.  I think they must have realised that the way they did it last year was a disservice to the runner up.  I think it is better in the house… we get to watch the winner pace around the house in hysterics!

John and Ashley weren’t invited back to the grand finale which must have made them feel awful.  I know I would feel like crap if that was me.  I’m glad that their ejection from the house wasn’t excluded in the season recap.

The Underneath the Radar cover version that Danielle performed with the aid of the housemate dancers was fun.  It would have taken a lot of guts for me to go out dressed like Gaelan and DinoRob was funny with his cheerleader skirt too!  I bet Krystal was pissed off that she missed to opportunity to sing instead of Danielle.

It was also good that the Friday Night Games people got to make an appearance on the final show.  They have been a big part of the show this year and should be acknowledged.  I can’t believe last night was the first time that Gretel Killeen and Mike Goldman have appeared on camera together.  Is it just me or did Gretel seem to have a kind of arrogance toward Mike as if she thinks is the true star of the show.  Mike works a lot harder each series with his voiceovers, Up Late and Friday Night Games.

So, all in all, it has been an interesting season.  As I have mentioned previously, I think the actual show would have been more interesting if the housemates had have been more diverse and Big Brother was more cheeky than mean.  There were a lot of good points, with the addition of the one hour weekend recap on Sunday nights before the eviction show.  The added dimension of the 2SAVE votes was also good.  I thought it was a pity that Adult’s Only didn’t make it to the end of the season.  Next year, if there is a series, AO should be more personality than sex driven… but make sure the humorous montages are retained!

Finally I would personally like to thank all of visitor to Brad’s Big Brother Blog.  It has been an interesting ride for someone with very little previous success in blogging.  I have had over 57,000 hits since the start of the series.  I would also dearly like to thank all of the regular commenters… you most of all have made this worthwhile.  It’s nice to talk about Big Brother and to me, discussing it is what it’s all about.

All the best,

Brad.

Do Svidaniya Lauren & Rob

June 26, 2006

This weeks evictee's were Lauren and Rob.

Lauren was no surprise. I'm glad she was the one they chose to evict as another boring blonde in the house (a' la BB05's Melanie) would have been too much to bear. I hope she enjoyed her stay.

It was dissapointing that the viewers chose to evict Rob. He has been very entertaining and it will be a shame to lose that spice from the house. I was really impressed with his attitude to being evicted and how much value he placed on the friendships he had formed with Camilla and David.

Regular readers would know that I was hoping it was Jamie who was leaving and as I mentioned to one my regular commenter's, if Jamie is going to remain in the house, let's hope that he gets his act together and starts contributing again. Nomination or no nomination, I can't take another week of sulking.

*UPDATE*

According to Behind Big Brother, there were problems with the voting system for this weeks eviction.  It seems that people were having trouble with the 2SAVE for Rob and the EVICT for Jamie.  Very Interesting.  I doubt there is any way they could quantify the missing votes.  Bad luck for Rob I guess.

The New Intruders

June 22, 2006

The new intruders entered the house last night.

Before I go any further, can I just say this to the producers; What in the hell is going on with a 'one hour special' like that? You introduced us to three people and in that time you couldn't even show us all three entering the house? What is your logic? If you couldn't see any other way of fitting *so many* events (sarcasm), into a one hour format, how about you leave out interviews with the Intruder's lock down companions next time. Who Cares!! :-(

Thank you, for indulging me in that rant, this year's series feels like the worst and it's hard for me to maintain the enthusiasm required to write this blog, however, dear reader, I will persist to the end.

Now, onto the intruders…

  • Darren
  • Lauren
  • Perry

They all seem like decent people, but it's hard to tell what their really like with the introduction packages that are put together for them.

Darren seems like a quiet guy. He's young so it's understandable that he's a little shy and nervous to start with. It does seem like he and Ashley will get along well, they are both young and like cars. Ashley is dying to have someone that will talk cars with him.

Lauren seems confident and fairly sure of herself. I don't think she will crack in the house, but I don't think the other women will like her much.

Perry is one of those confident 'grown-ups' who can get away with being cheeky and outspoken. I think she will go down well with Rob because they seem similair… but her and Camilla will knock heads if Perry tries to take the role as the house mouthpiece.

That's my take on the tiny fraction of time I have seen the new Intruders in the house. My prediction for which of the three gets evicted on Sunday is… Lauren.

Nominations 8

June 20, 2006

The nominees for eviction this week are…

  • Camilla
  • Jamie
  • Rob

There you go Jamie, if you didn't enjoy being unpopular with the housemates last week, I'm sure you will be pleased to find that you had so many points this week that John's 3 point deduction amounted to nothing.

Rob was an obvious choice as he can't seem to keep his mouth shut on any issue. He is really starting to become annoying.

Camilla is Camilla, and had to expect a few points just for speaking up. I was really hoping that John would take his points off her as it would have dragged Gaelan into the nomination web.

It should be interesting on the daily show tonight to see John and Jamie get slammed by Big Brother for discussing all of the ins and outs of this week's nominations and John's 3 point deduction.

Will they ever learn?

*UPDATE* – Whoops, nearly forgot.  My prediction for eviction (hey that rhymes) is Jamie

Chill out David

June 6, 2006

For all of his apparent ‘worldliness’ David should know better than to think he can expect everyone he interacts with to believe the same things he does, even if it is ‘right’ or ‘makes sense.’

It could become his undoing if he wants to win BB06.  Dino made a point of specifying this trait to David on the farewell video.

In a conversation this week, he said to Rob that he shouldn’t refer to the other housemates as ‘breeders’ because this can lead to him being labelled a ‘fag.’  Rob defended himself by saying that humour helps him to cope.  David replied by saying the humour works for ‘overtly gay characters’ and these types of gay people have generally become accepted in society.  The average gay person however has a harder time being accepted in society.

I think he has a point, but he needs to realise that he isn’t going to change the world on his own.  All he’ll do is make the people out there think he is a whiner.

Nominations 6

June 6, 2006

The nominees for eviction this week are…

  • Camilla
  • Danielle
  • Rob

Not many surprises really.  Rob has been acting like a goody two-shoes ever since the housemates failed last week's etiquette task… despite the fact he decided to have a skinny dip in the pool in broad daylight.

Danielle has upset people for various reasons including her involvement in the 'love triangle.'

And, it wouldn't be a normal week if Camilla wasn't up for eviction.  Every series has to have one like her.

I couldn't believe it when Katie decided to take the 3 nomination points off Camilla instead of Danielle… dodging a nomination bullet for herself in the process.  Very inspired indeed!

My tip for eviction this week is Rob.  He's too much of a drama queen.

Nominations 4

May 24, 2006

The nominees this week are…

  • Camilla
  • John
  • Michael

I couldn't believe what a prat Michael was being with Big Brother during his nomination voting. What was with the newly adopted crossed arms and V finger gesture? Then he thought that he could outwit BB on the validity of his reasons for nominating Camilla. Tim challenged Big Brother on reasons in BB05, but Tim was actually intelligent. Michael only thinks he's intelligent. There's a subtle difference Mikey!

Anyway, no contest, John is a good guy, Camilla has a new haircut thanks to Rob. It's time to go… Michael.

The Intruders

May 19, 2006

I have now had a chance to observe the Intruders in the house.

Rob is nice, but sometimes he tries the in your face gay guy thing, particularly in his advice to Michael that can at first seem overly agressive. I think this is probably just a self defence mechanism as I believe Rob is probably more of an introvert. I think David thought he was bit filthy at first, but later realised he is actually a nice person with bad hair and odd eyebrow grooming habits.

The house now has a hairdresser!

Jade could be okay. She has come in expecting to be quite powerful and like Elise before her, is finding herself marginalised from the other housemates. I think if she just acts naturally, people will discover she is cool. Just as they have with Claire. Although the talking to herself might draw comparisons to Rachel from BB05.

Danielle just seems a bit blank. She is a girly girl and Krystal found herself instantly drawn to her character. I can't imagine her making much of a contribution to the house. But this is probably due to her being so young.

This year more than previous years, it seems like there haven't been enough mature (should that read old? :-) ) people put into the house!
